This proposal for a biomedical research facility in One North, Singapore examines workplace design for tropical conditions. The site sits at the intersection of the Buona Vista node and the Rail Corridor project.
The façade uses a two-layered envelope system to address climate and laboratory requirements. The building enclosure consists of a parapet wall and vision glass panels that allow natural light into the labs. Fresh air ventilation louvers above the ceiling provide direct outdoor air intake.
An outer layer of hanging planters creates shade and reduces heat gain on the building surface. The plants use evapotranspiration to lower ambient temperatures through evaporative cooling. Communal spaces are distributed throughout the building to support collaboration and provide informal work areas with direct access to outdoor spaces.
